You have a concept. You have a solution. You have a company. You have a dream. No matter what you have, if you want to share it with the world only one place allows you to do so – the internet. Inevitably, however, you’re probably not the only one with that resource, that idea, that product, that service – after all, if everyone’s a critic then they’re all going to come up with better-yet-similar ideas. So how to distinguish yourself from the rest of the online pack? Register a unique domain name – one that best exemplifies and represents you and what you’re offering to the global community.
But then again, what are the odds that someone has picked out and registered the very same domain name in your head? Extremely high, unfortunately. So how can you find out if a domain name has already been taken?
Here’s a list of sites where you can look up domain names, and check if they’re available or not – and don’t worry, these sites let you search for free.

Looking to put up a site in the Philippines? Domains.ph provides a robust domain name checker for domain names with the extensions ph, com.ph, net.ph, and org.ph.

PlainIP Web Solutions has an in-depth domain checker for the following extensions: com, net, org, info, and biz.

This is the BEST one so far. Type out exactly the domain name you want, with any extension, and it will check if it’s already been taken. And if it indeed has been registered by someone else, their contact details and personal information are displayed for your reference, including their name, phone numbers, and home address.
Always remember that, when picking out your domain name, try to keep it short (you don’t want people to keep typing the same URL over and over to go to your website, do you?) and unique to what you’re offering and where you’re from (if you’re going to show your personal photos, your name is Alan, and you’re from Barbados, for instance, then name it something like alanphotos.com.bb). Now get searching!
